Chakapas

The Chakapa is one of the most sacred healing instruments of the Amazonian curandero (healer) tradition. Bundles of dried aromatic leaves from the Amazon are tied together and used by shamans during ceremonies to fan, cleanse, and direct healing energy through the body of a patient.

During Ayahuasca, Hapé, and other plant medicine ceremonies in the Peruvian and Brazilian Amazon, the Chakapa is the primary instrument of the healer. Its rhythmic sound creates a trance-like atmosphere that allows the shaman to navigate the spirit world and apply sound healing directly where it is needed most.
