Amazonian Wood Kuripe (Self Applicator)
Amazonian Wood Kuripe (Self Applicator)
The kuripe is the personal hapé self-applicator — a V-shaped pipe, one end seated against the nostril and the other at the lips, through which you blow the sacred hapé medicine into your own nasal passage. This is the traditional instrument of solo practice, allowing you to work with hapé independently and at your own pace.
This kuripe is hand-carved in the Amazon from dense Amazonian hardwood, shaped and smoothed by artisan hands. Each piece is unique in grain and tone. The angled design creates an airtight seal and the airway runs clean through — no residue traps, no debris. At 10–12cm in length, it fits easily in a pocket or medicine bag.
How to Use a Kuripe
- Load a small amount of hapé (a match-head to a small pea) into the nostril-end cup using a pointed tool or folded paper
- Press the nostril end firmly against your right nostril, sealing it completely
- Place the lip end in your mouth
- Set your intention, take a breath in, then blow a single, steady, confident breath through the pipe — not a sharp burst, not a slow leak, a single committed exhale
- Repeat on the left nostril with a new measure of hapé
- Sit quietly for several minutes with eyes closed
Care
Clean with a thin twisted tissue or pipe cleaner after each use. Occasionally wipe the wood with a small amount of natural oil (coconut or jojoba) to prevent drying and cracking. Never soak in water.
