Sandalwood Resin | Origin: India
Sandalwood Resin | Origin: India
Sandalwood (Santalum album) is one of the oldest continuously used sacred fragrant woods in human civilization — burned in Hindu temples for over 4,000 years, present in Buddhist ceremony across Asia, used in Ayurvedic medicine, and traded across the ancient world as one of the most prized aromatic commodities. Its scent is warm, creamy, softly sweet, and woody — gentle rather than overpowering, with a slow, long-lasting burn that develops depth over time.
Our sandalwood resin is sourced from sustainable Santalum album trees in India. The heartwood, which contains the highest concentration of fragrant oils, is processed into a soft, malleable resin that burns cleanly on charcoal and releases the full aromatic complexity of the wood without synthetic enhancement.
Traditional Uses
- Sacred ceremony and prayer: Foundational incense in Hindu puja, Buddhist practice, and many Indigenous Asian traditions — considered to purify the space and carry prayers upward
- Meditation and focus: The soft, non-stimulating scent supports sustained concentration and mental quiet — widely used in seated meditation and yoga nidra
- Skin and body: Sandalwood paste and oil have long been used in Ayurvedic practice for cooling inflammation and caring for skin
- Perfumery: A classic base note that fixes and smooths blends — pairs with rose, jasmine, oud, and frankincense
How to Burn
Place a small piece of sandalwood resin on a glowing charcoal tablet. It will melt and release a gentle, sustained smoke. Unlike stronger resins, sandalwood rewards patience — burn a little and allow the scent to build in the space rather than adding more.
